The U.S. Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, said that European countries would be well advised to separate trade relations with Washington from the situation surrounding Greenland.

According to Reuters, the U.S. official stated: “It is up to Europe to decide whether it wants to address the new threats made by Donald Trump to impose tariffs on certain European countries over Greenland.”

He added: “If I were in the Europeans’ position, I would probably try to separate this issue as much as possible. If they want to make it part of a trade deal, that is their choice, not ours.”

The remarks come in response to an announcement made on Saturday by President Donald Trump imposing 10% tariffs on imports from the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, France and Sweden.
