Russia: Terrorist cell planning train station bombing neutralized

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said Thursday that its agents had killed what it described as members of a Central Asian “terrorist” cell planning to blow up a train station in the western city of Pskov.

The agency said in a statement that “the terrorists put up armed resistance to Russian security personnel and were neutralized by return fire.”

The agency released a video showing a nighttime raid on a house and apartment, according to the Moscow Times. The video shows Russian security personnel shooting at the door of the house and a bomb going off, followed by images of several bodies, some of them holding rifles, as well as ammunition and explosives.

Russian security services said the group was from an unspecified Central Asian country and part of an unnamed “international terrorist organization” that was making bombs and planning to blow up the Pskov train station before fleeing to the Middle East. Russian authorities frequently announce the elimination of suspected terrorist cells operating in the country.
